Hearing Loss: Sensory-Neural A sensory loss is due to damage in the cochlea. A neural loss is due to damage in the nerves beyond the inner ear carrying stimulus to the brain. These two types of losses are commonly grouped together and are not usually medically or surgically treatable. Sensory and neural hearing loss happens for many reasons, but some of the more common causes are the damaging effects of age, drug reactions, and exposure to damaging noise. |
